Nothing exciting

Devan-
299 days and counting. It's under 300. I didn't think I would have made it this long.
Things are going along pretty normal. Nothing too exciting to blog about. Paul is enrolling in some on-line classes through a college in Nebraska. This way he can have some classes out of the way before we get back home. The shorter the time both of us are in school, the better. He's working towards his elementary teaching certificate. I guess this job made him realize that he likes teaching. I'm sure any follower of this blog will understand the implied tone when I say, "Whatever floats your boat."
I'm studying for the GRE in October. I'm a little nervous because I have to take it in Tokyo. The test is enough to think about but to navigate Tokyo, find the testing center...bla, bla, bla. We'll see how it goes.
School, for me, has gotten a little better this year. No one worries about where I am or what I'm doing so I'm left alone to do my own thing. I'm picking up on more of the language. I understood today when a teacher mumbled under her breath "[student's name] wouldn't be so dumb if he didn't eat so much chocolate." Eeek! The school lunch is still weird and I still have to come up with inventive ways to avoid it. My latest ploy, show up to the teacher's lunch room with 5 minutes of lunch time left. "Oops, I didn't have time to finish. Darn." Last month's ploy, scoop what everyone else didn't eat onto my plate (as if I'm cleaning up) before anyone noticed that the largest portion of that was mine. Month before that...you get the idea. Everyone I eat with are moms so I'm sure they've caught on to my tricks but it still makes me feel better.
No surprise that my least favorite grade this year is 5th grade (last year it was 4th). Problem is, I have 5th graders on Fridays so it's too tempting to call in sick. A three day weekend sound so much better than a crappy Friday followed by two days of lamenting about how crappy it was.
So that's life right now. Summer vacation starts July 22nd.

I'll be so excited to see you and Paul when you come back! You should make a trip to TX to see Austin and me in our new apartment!
