Heat

Japan doesn't have central heat and air, insulation, or double paned windows. Winter in Japan is miserable. When some friends left Japan last year they left us a heated coffee table. The underside heats to keep your legs warm. We turned it on for the first time last night. This thing has now become my favorite invention of all time. Sheer genius. But apparently if you sit under a heated coffee table for 5 hours (as I did last night) you might suffer heat stroke (which I might have last night).
I wish I could take it to America with me.
The kotatsu.
