It’s the last week of classes before Christmas break. I’m sure everyone can guess how excited I am for a break. These past few weeks we have been testing the kids on their conversational English. Mito is one of the few districts that have English curriculum in elementary schools so they are a model for a lot of other districts. So we give these tests to show how well the program is doing. Funny thing is that these tests are totally rigged. The whole process is not regulated and, in the case of my 6th graders, they were given the answers beforehand. No surprise that all 250 students got an A.
I’m not upset about the testing process. I’m sure the “powers that be” are aware of the unfair testing system and probably prefer it that way. Sure looks good when an entire school aces an English test.
My last English club meeting for the semester is tomorrow. I’m more excited for a break from that nightmare more than anything. I made rice crispy treats and we are going to watch A Muppet Christmas Carol. It’s should be an easy day. I did have a bit of difficulty making the treats. I couldn’t find rice crispy so I settled on corn flakes. The first batch failed terribly (I think I broke a tooth on one). Zane had said, “Even bad moms can make rice crispy treats.” Apparently I’m worst than a bad mom. The second batch was ok but we’ll see what they morph into over night.
In about a month our Japanese class is going down to Tokyo for a big Sumo tournament. The two days after the tournament Paul and I are going to stay in Tokyo and do Disney Sea and Land again. I’m pretty excited. Then in the first week of February we are planning on going to the Northern Island for a snow festival. Apparently they make ice carvings that are several stories tall. I’m pretty excited for that too.
I think the last few months after winter break will go quickly.

And, hello. We're coming. That should at least give you something interesting to think about during your break, huh?
