This past week we had “Halloween” at our schools. Well, my school didn’t do anything special. In fact, I don’t think I had mentioned it to any of my students that day. The few times I did mention it they just gave me a blank stare so I gave up. I had put up window decorations in the English room but those didn’t get a big reaction either. Paul’s school had a festival on Saturday where the kids all dressed up and made haunted houses in their classes rooms. Paul dressed up as a bear/mouse thing. Please enjoy the awkward pictures…

Every Tuesday afternoon I am in charge of a group of 11 fourth graders for English club. These kids aren’t the brightest crayons in the box…no fourth grader is. This past week we worked on the Halloween decorations for the English room. I had painted paper plates orange and gave them some felt to cut out and glue on Jack-O-Lantern faces. Seems like a simple task. It took them 1.5 hours to figure this out. I understand that a Jack-o-lantern is a foreign concept but come on kids. Coming to the point of this story, at the end of arts and crafts hour I had some chocolate to hand out and teach the kids about “Trick-or-Treat”. I had cleared the candy with the teacher ahead of time. When I brought the candy out in class apparently she had had a change of mind. So suddenly, bag of candy in hand, I had to explain to the kids that they couldn’t have the candy. I hate English club. OR maybe she was trying to teach an important life lesson…always be prepared to be disappointed.
